Target audience: 

A= age: This song will be aimed at young teenagers and adults (16-20) because; it’s a song which is attractive to this age range. It’s also a song which people of this age can relate to as it's about love and relationships. This song is quite an upbeat song, it most probably would not attract an age range above 20 or those younger than 16 as they will not be able to relate and connect with the lyrics.  

G= gender: This song is aimed for both male and female audience. The song is sung by two male artists however, this song will also attract female audience because, its a classic R&B song. The rhythm and pace of the music is consistent throughout. This music video seems to be targeted more towards a female audience rather than a male audience because, it’s to do with love and relationships, the music is has also been sung by male artists.

I= interest: This song has been illustrated as an upbeat song with a consistent rhythm. This song also has a lot of beats which match the lyrics throughout. This song represents love, passion and desires. The interests of the artist is finding love and having a relationship.  

                          

L= location: This song is to do with love so the location would have to be in an area were love can be portrayed. I would like it to be in different locations. For example at the beginning when they meet it would be when the guy is walking home at night and he sees the lady, and gives his number to the lady. Then it could be the lady is shopping with her friends and sees the guy. At the end i want it to end with a romantic dinner and a long night drive. I personally everyone from the age of 16-20 would engage with this type of location, i dont feel that there is a certain city or country that would engage with it in particular however, the people who understand English language and the song would engage more than the people who are unable to understand the lyrics. 
                

E= ethnicity: This would be black as the artist of the song is black. However, i may not stick to this when making my music video as i need to find someone who will be willing to do this task and someone who is also reliable. It also depends on who i chose to be in my music video, along with my partner.

Analysing tempo:
Tempo means pace. Analysing the tempo is basically when you analyse the pace of the song. The tempo for this song is not of high pace nor low, i would say it's in the middle, so medium pace. The tempo is quite soft which also reflects to the genre type of R&B and soul. This genre of music illustrates a story within the song, which is related to love. I have thought about the types of cut which i will be representing in my music video. I have decided to use a lot of cuts as this will match the pace and tempo of the song. I want my music video to have different types of styles and conventions such as narrative, interpretive and impressionist. The reason i have chosen the three is because, i want my music video to be innovative and unique, so i feel using different styles and conventions will help make a successful music video.



How you would visually communicate this in a video?:

I would visually communicate this in a video by portraying and representing that which i feel matches the music. I will also make sure the lyrics match what i have portrayed. This song is related to a female artist who calls the man. I will show this by having my female artist calling the guy. This can be represented in many ways, such as the ladies side calling the man, the man's side picking up the call. I would portray illustration in this music video by matching the lyrics to the video. For example, 'she comes rite back 2 nite' for this part of the lyrics i will have my female artist going to the male artist. This is part of illustration as the actions match the lyrics. 

I will also use amplification. This is when the music video is designed to enhance the style and mood of the song. This can be done easily as i will make sure the mood matches the pace of the song, For example for the main parts of the lyrics, the hook, i will make sure i show both the artist's side, the female artist may have the phone in her hand waiting to call, and the male artist may be looking at his watch waiting for the call. 

       

    

I don't think i will contradict the lyrics because, i have already decided to make this music video with the styles and conventions of narrative, interpretive and impressionist. I believe contradicting the lyrics will not suit my plan for the music video.

Jackie Boyz started their music career singing at the pier on River street in Savannah Georgia where they were raised and born. Their inspiration was the love for music which came from early age. Their mother was an inspiration for them, Jackie Battey (R.I.P). The name they are known by carries a memory of their mother and the music they portray to the audience. The loss of their parents influenced and motivated the two to leave Savannah, Georgia and pursue their music careers. These artist's have made music and ever since they arrived to Los Angeles three years ago they have been making hit songs.

They are currently working with award winning producers and artist such as flo rida, Harvey Mason Jr, Rodney Jerkins, Brian Kennedy, Rob Knox and many more. As song writers they have collaborated with artists such as

My artist could either wear an Aztec t-shirt or an Aztec printed jumper. The reason i have decided to choose Aztec print is because, its in fashion and also because, it suits the song which i have chosen for my music video. Another reason is also because, i also really like Aztec print.

       

I have also chosen beanie hat because, i feel they suite my artist and also goes with the clothing i have chosen for my artist. I also like snoods, i feel it also goes with the look i have decided for my artist.
   
I also chose this beaded necklace because, i feel it looks different and also quite unique for an artist. I chose Ray Ban's because, i really like them and i also feel it goes with the style i have created for my artist. It also makes the artist look fashionable.



   

I decided my artist could either wear burgundy chukka boots or Nike air forces.  I like both and they also go with the outfit. Both the chukka boots and air forces go with the clothes i have chosen for my artist.

 
I have chosen peace bracelets and a Hugo boss watch. The reason i have chosen two different types of jewellery is because, the bracelet is a fashion statement and a style i feel will suit my artist, however i feel a watch is also an important jewellery piece which my artist should also have.

The iPhone is included because in the lyrics, there is a part which is, 'Giv me a call on my phone'. Also because, this whole song is about calling and talking on the phone. The rings relate to relations, and how the artist and the person he is singing to are related, and what's their relationship like?

I have chosen the 'London eye' as part of my setting. The reason behind choosing the 'London eye' is because, it is a romantic area. This area is best to portray love and relations. As you can see above there is an image of candles and flowers this illustrates love. I have chosen this image to portray a candle light dinner which i also want to include in my music video. 

   

The setting and lighting would also be romantic. The reason as to why i have chosen the night and the moon is because, i also want some of my shoots in the music video to be at night with the moon and the night sky. Parts of my lyrics relate to night such as, 'She comes rite back tonight'. The roses indicate love which also has an 'I love you' tag.

   

The  iPhone 5 is a prop which is needed in the music video because, its related to the music. The lyrics also convey the fact that an iPhone is needed. The image on the right is an image of a restaurant. I also wanted my music video to have my artist go to a restaurant to show how the artist is as a person and this could be portrayed in this manner. 

 

The rings illustrate that the couple are together or they are planning to get together. I wanted this prop in my music video because, it is also an important prop which will allow the audience to understand the relationship behind the artist and the actor. The image of the road represents long drive. This could be a romantic long drive. 

  

The image of the chocolate goes with part of the lyrics 'All day only chocolate'. This is also to represent happiness and what people love. This can also portray love which is shared. The image of missed calls represents betrayal and waiting for someone. It also shows how someone cares for you, it can also mean irritation and frustration because they are not replying.

These are the few colours which i feel could relate to my artist. The colour teal represent passion and i feel the lyrics represents a form of passion for love and desires. The colour red illustrates love and lust, this is clearly portrays my artist identity. The colour pink represents unconditional love and passion. The colour yellow illustrates cheerful and happy. I feel my artist's mood is happy, the music is also quite upbeat. Navy blue represents, trust. This definitely relates to my lyrics. Navy blue can also mean and relate to 'one to one conversations' this can either be private or serious, about love or over an argument.

The second image also links to the first as its an image of a lady holding the phone, waiting for someone to call, or hesitating to call someone. The last image relates to the lyrics as its about 'calling', it also goes with the song.

The reason i have chosen the image above is because, i believe this song is quite confusing. The audience have to understand the lyrics to get the song. The emotions portrayed are mixed, there is also two ladies mentioned in the lyrics so the audience are left to understand the relationship between the man and the two ladies.

However i feel this is an important task and i do wish to decide this with my partner, as i feel this is important and i would like to have someone who is reliable. This means choosing the right people and taking the time to see if the person is fit to do the job.

Who is Andrew Goodwin?

'Andrew Goodwin is an Australian born operatic tenor'. Andrew Goodwin is a media theorist who published a well known book in 1992, on music television and cultural theory called ' Dancing in the distraction factory: music television and popular culture. 

What were his idea? 

'Music videos ignore common narrative as they are essentially advertisements.  As consumers we make up our own meaning of a song in our minds: a music video can anchor meaning and give the record company/ artist a method of anchoring meaning'- stated by Andrew Goodwin.

As you can see above Andrew Goodwin has mentioned his ideas, as to how a audience should look at a music video. Andrew Goodwin also mentioned five aspects at which the audience should look out for in a music video. These five aspects are thought beats, take in to consideration about the lyrics and verses. Narrative and performance, Goodwin believes that  music videos should ignore common narrative. The star image is an consequential factor which the artist has to consider many factors to stay unique and help satisfy the audience. One of the vital facts which Goodwin wanted to get through to the audience is relation of visuals to a song.  There is three ways in which music videos promote a song illustrating, amplifying and contradicting.

Where did he publish them?
He published his ideas in the book published in 1992. 'Dancing in the distractions factory: music video television and popular culture'. Goodwin's ideas were published in this book. Example of illustrating would be 'Friday'. This music video illustrates the visuals. For example at 0.27 seconds, the artist is singing 'everybody's rushing' and everyone is rushing out the door. Also at 0.29 seconds the lyrics says 'got to get to the bus' and visually we see her at the bus stop.

Amplifying is when the video is designed to enhance the style and mood of the song. This type of music video is usually portrayed as a performance and narrative.

This music video is an example of amplifying. This music video clearly shows the artist is home but the audience can work out the song is 'homecoming' and it is him walking around a city he knows as shown in the music video at 0.16 seconds.








This music video illustrates how the artist designed the music video to enhance the style of the mood. It is also a performance as music videos are performed and the audience see the artist perform.This music video does portray a narrative as the artist is walking around a city which seems to relate to a real-life story.

On YouTube Kanye West 'Homecoming' has 34,920,329 viewers and overall there is more likes than dislikes. This clearly indicates that this music video has interrelated and fascinated a wide range of audience with different backgrounds. Most audience have portrayed this music video as successful and it also proves that this music video has attracted a range of audience.

Contradicting
This style of music video is when the music video deliberately goes against the lyrics and mood of the song. opposite of what the lyrics says is what is visually seen by the audience.

This music video illustrates the meaning of a contradicting music video. The lyrics in this music video do not match the visuals in this music video. For example at 1.54 seconds the lyrics 'I remember i couldn't afford...' does not go with the visuals which are represented to the audience.






This music video encapsulates the meaning of contradiction. It clearly stipulates how the artist's lyrics does not match the visuals. This music video helps the audience understand that some music video technique are contradicting as the artist does not match the lyrics to the visuals. This can be a positive and a negative. This music video could be a positive as some audience may like this style as it is a new experience. On the other hand some audience may feel as though this technique is confusing and they may not like this fact.

Another one of Kanye West music video 'Diamonds for sierra Leone' had also had a lot of viewers and out of the viewers review there were more likes than dislikes. This music video had 9,350,797 viewers overall. The gratification theory of this music video is interesting. The actual music video contradicts to the lyrics however, overall its seems as though the audience have understood the style and have enjoyed this music video.

Iconography
This is when the images are the visual elements. The genres are complex and diverse in terms of the music video style. For example the artist may be represented in one way such as clothing and the audience recognize them this way.

In this music video iconography is represented because,it shows how they try to act like gangsters. Their clothing also indicates that they are trying to create that image. The artists wearing baggy clothes. 
The artists location of the music video is outside the barbers show and in the music video at 0.03 seconds the barbers shop is visible and this creates a image of bad boyz and the area sets a image of the people in that area. 



This music video demonstrates iconography and how the images are the visual elements. For example 'The notorious big' corresponds and relates to how they act like gangsters. The clothing of the artist also portrays their characteristics and role in the music video. The clothing is loose and big, this all represents the artist and how the song is also related.

This music video seems to grab the audiences attention and the gratifications theory for this music video is positive as this music video has more likes than dislikes on YouTube.

This is a camera technique which record companies demand for. This technique is used by many artist as it has a positive effect on the audience, it creates a clearer and pleasant picture for the audience.

This is a music video style where female are usually exposed in music videos to help attract attention. This can also relate to Men however, this is rarely seen as female are presented more in music videos. This type of music video will keep the audience entertained weather its the mod of the song or the visuals of the music video.

This music video depicts voyeurism as the first entrance of the lead artist at 0.03 seconds is a close up of her legs. She's tapping them against the side of the table, this directly attracts the attention of males. This also means she gains sexual attention and pleasure.






This music video clearly illustrates how females are exposed to gain sexual pleasure and attention. The male audience may feel attracted to the artist as she is portrayed as important and centre of attention. This music video demonstrates the meaning of voyeurism and how female artists attract male audience.

 This type of style and convention is when one media text refers to another. This music video gets ideas from the movie, this may be from one scene and puts that into a music video however, this may have a new innovation which the artist wants to portray. There are two types of interpretive music video which are pastiche and parody. Pastiche: This is when an artist pays homage to a music video to reinvent a scene from a movie or using the same scene in the music video. Parody: This  is when an artist makes fun out of a certain music video or scene. This is mainly done to make fun of a certain artist or to mock the artist. This can be reinvented however it is usually portrayed the way the artist feels it has been shown. 




In this music video Robbie Williams applies to Alice in wonderland in current and present terms. This artist portrays this in many ways, at 0.32 seconds we see the mirror changing colours and the artist turns towards it. Similarly in the film she finds a hole and crawls inside.

As an illustration the artist in this music video is a male portraying a female's role however, he is a rabbit throughout the music video. This music video is related to a very popular film so the audience are more interested  in watching this new innovated music video. The comments and reviews for this music video included comments such as 'This is a brilliant video and song. Robbie never ceases to amaze me with his wonderful music'. This music video denotes that the audience expected to see Robbie portray a music video in this form as this is the way in which he creates music videos.
